Nelly's Bodega directed by Omonike Akinyemi

A 50 minute Narrative Film that tells the story of a young African-American girl's friendship with a Latina woman. As the Latina woman helps the young girl explore her heritage through the orisha, Oshun, the girl helps Nelly decide to leave an abusive marriage. Set in 1980's New York City. Our first filmed episode of the Omo Sango series which links members of the Yoruba Kingdom's of Ketu and Savi through 256 ears of history. Screened at Cannes Forum 2000, the Harlem Film Festival, Festival Cinema Delle Donne, Berlin Film Market, and PBS (WNET, KCET, and other stations).
